The ugliest turn yet for Clemens

The New York Daily News shimmies nearly all the way out to the end of the limb today. Let's not kid ourselves: Weasel words aside, you are instructed to believe that Roger Clemens started having sex with country star Mindy McCready when she was 15 years old. It depends on what the meaning of "romance" is, I guess.

What do you suppose Clemens' lawyers are doing today? Researching libel law, or the statute of limitations? This is so ugly that the steroid allegations pale by comparison.

A few years ago, Bill Simmons (aka the Boston Sports Guy) came up with what he called, "The Tyson Zone:"

The Tyson Zone is the status an athlete or celebrity reaches when his or her behavior becomes so outrageous that one would believe any story or anecdote about the person, no matter how shocking or bizarre. (taken from the Wikipedia)

Needless to say, Roger Clemens is now officially in The Zone...

Ah, now I get it. The Viagra McNamee was serving up to the Fat Con Man to keep up with teen Mindy was, in fact,
HGH.

Anyone who uses Bill Simmons to buttress his case may as well cite Donald Rumsfeld in the cause of diplomacy.

Hey, the NY Daily News wouldn't print it if it wasn't true, right?

Anon 6:18: I'm not endorsing the story. At the same time, though, I think we can assume that it was very carefully lawyered.

Clemens' lawyers?

Clearing their calendars, hiring additional associates, and calling their favorite [insert luxury car brand here] salesmen.

Mindy (who I don't think I've heard of) has been down 9 miles of bad road and hasn't talked thus far. It's likely the NYDN's story signals that her silent status is about to change.
Roger seems single-minded enough to get through this one. The IRS is of greater concern to him.

Would that be Cooperstown fading away in the shimmer of the rear view mirror?

Oh come on. Nothing is going to keep Roger Clemens out of the Hall of Fame.

What's even creepier than Roger Clemens dating a 15-yo (and, according to them both, waiting until 18 for anything unseemly) is the nudge-nudge, wink-wink behavior of sleazy Michael Graham this morning on WTKK suggesting that doing an underage girl really isn't that bad. It was weird, and made my skin crawl.

This particular sports scandal is really exposing some icky people.

The l'affaire de Clemens has exposed Michael Graham as icky?

Only if you'd never listened to him for more than, um, three minutes.

Anon 10:46: Roger seems simple-minded enough to try to lie through this one.

Just wanted to fix that one for ya...

Roger is really the Elvis Presley of pitchers...except he didn't marry the girl.
