Making sense of Google Adsense
I'm trying to add Google Adsense, and I've made a mess of it — I'm approved (I think), but I never activated it (I guess) and now I can't get into my account. The messages Google gives me are not helpful. Anyone know what I should do?
And, oh yeah — Merry Christmas!

I'm assuming you've seen the step-by-step instructions here?
I woulda thought you'd go after the NYT trying to sell the Sox story, but was Christmas, anyway. =)
MTS: That doesn't really speak to what I've managed to do to myself. When I try to log in with my Google username and password, it kicks me out, saying: "An AdSense account does not exist for this login, as it is associated with an unapproved application. For more information about your application, please review the message we sent to the email address you provided with your application."
I'll be damned if I can find the message.
A couple of months ago, I signed up and got a PIN number by snail mail. But I can't get to the point where I'm allowed to enter it.
And if I try to create a new Adsense account using my Gmail address, I get a message saying someone else (i.e., me) already has an Adsense account with that address, so I should create a new Google ID. Which I don't want to do.
So ... a closed circle.
When I got locked out of an account with a Connecticut gov't dept., some IT person had to reset something and have a new password sent to me, for what that's worth.
Ani: Good grief. I imagine it would be easier to get through to a state government office than Fortress Google. I hope I can solve it without going that far.
Kitchen Sink approach:
Firefox has a rep as being secure, so, by default, people let cookies in where they've told IE not to.
Try this:
In Firefox, go to
Tools/Options
Privacy
Look for the section in the middle that's labeled "Cookies" Click on the button "Show Cookies"
Recoil in horror as you view all the cookies you have (like andrewsullivan.com).
Find google.com Click on it. The Remove Cookies button should become enabled. Click on it.
Click OK at the bottom of the window.
This should clear your Google cookies. Try logging in using the instructions you got in your Adsense postcard from Google.
There may be an expiration date on that Adsense password.
I think normally, when you log in with your regular Google name and password, if you click on My Account, one of the options should be Adsense.
Google is a little weird, for such masters of the world, they seem to have certain functions walled off from others in terms of links.
